I did well on my ACT (an overall scoreDec 06 2006Aerospace Engineering
I did well on my ACT (an overall score of 32, with a Math subset of 35). The score was more of a fluke, and I was lucky enough that that got me into UIUC engineering on its own. Each year the selection process gets tighter. Taking the ACT a few times if you think you can get a higher score would definately help out.

I don't know what to say about how to get in. But if you intend to be accepted (and this goes for many universities), check the university's AP credit allowances. Just because you've scored well on an AP test doesn't necessarily mean you will recieve credit that will help you in your degree.

Though I did well on the ACT and was in the top 5 of my graduating class, I believe my extra-curricular high school activities helped me get in more. I was a 4-year two-sport athlete (not good enough for D1, though!); I was co-founder of Interact, a community-service based organization run through our high school; I was also in numerous 'clubs' like the President's Club, Gifted Program, and I volunteered each Sunday to wheel old folks to mass at a local old folks home. Good grades alone won't get you in...you need to be a contributor to your community, too!

I would join as many clubs as possible and be very active in them!
